Quick Tips To Ponder Before Writing Your Learners Licence

Being safe on the roads doesn't come easy, its a heavy duty carried by you and maybe other drivers around you, with others, as long as they get there. There is a particular reason why you just don't go for your drivers licence and go for your learners first. "YOU NEED TO KNOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD", when you know the rules of the road then you can put your hands on the steering wheel and your feet on the pedals. The learners test prepares you on what to expect on the road in terms of how to keep yourself safe? it is the driving theory to the practical drivers lesson.

Speed Limits

The other road rule you must ponder is that, when driving on the high way do not forget to that the maximum speed allowed is 120km/h and when driving in urban areas the max speed is 60km/h and on all national and rural roads the max speed allowed is 100km/h. Otherwise the speed limit of every road is shown on the road signs.

  • Within 5 metres of an intersection
  • Where the parking bay is reserved for other users
  • Where the road less than 5,5m wide
  • On a traffic island
  • Over a solid white line

The yellow line

  • You are allowed to drive on the left hand side of the yellow only if you are experiencing a car breakage
  • Your car is moving slow for some reason and you want to let other cars pass through

Stopping

It is compulsory for you to stop, when directed to do so by a traffic officer, a road sign and when involved in an accident, by law all occurring accidents must be reported within 24hrs if there was no injuries.

Basic rules about overtaking

First things first, you always make sure it is safe before you overtake, check all your 5 blind spot before overtaking. Ans always remember to never overtake;

  • Over a solid white line
  • On the left hand of another car and
  • Definitely not a curve

And if you see that someone is trying to overtake, please do not accelerate, again keep as far to the left as possible

Road Intersections

When crossing any road intersection try not to block oncoming traffic

Changing road lanes

Only change lanes when its necessary to do so, most importantly signal first and when safe to change lanes, do so. If you see that the other driver wants to change lanes, it is advisable that you do not try and accelerate, if its safe on the other side move to that side so he/she can pass, it is for your own safety.

Who has the right of way?

If you arrive at a roundabout you must always yield to oncoming traffic from the right and at a mini traffic circle you must give way to cars that stopped before you do.

Car lights

Your car light must be on from sunset and sunrise, it is also safe to switch on your car's head lights when you cant see 150 metres away. On a road where the are streets light it is not necessary to switch on the brighter lights, because they might cause poor visibility for other road users.

Driving on freeways

Pedestrians are not allowed on freeways unless for a reason beyond their control. A driver can stop on a freeway only when instructed by a traffic officer and parking on road marking made for parking.

Seat belts, seatbelts, seatbelts...

It is not exceptional the driver and all his passengers, must at all times have their seatbelts on. Small kids must be provided with seat cars and putted at the back with the seatbelt on. Keep in mind that when traffic officers stop you and you are without a seatbelt, you will be fined.
