Code 10 (Heavy Vehicle) Drivers Licence Pre-Trip Inspection/Yard Test

What You Need To Do Before Your Code 10 Examination

The pre trip inspection is always conducted under supervision from the examiner. The weather conditions do not matter when it comes to the pre trip inspection for a code 10b driver's license. The driving instructor of the licencing department will ask you to inspect the exterior (Exterior Check) of the heavy motor vehicle. Once he or she is happy with your inspection you will then have to examine the interior of the vehicle (Interior Check, interior pre trip inspection).

1. Drivers Licence Yard Test | Incline Start For Code 10 (Heavy Vehicles)

Before the manoeuvre begins your instructor will tell you exactly what is expected of you. However you need to perform the incline yourself without rolling and following all instructions given to you.

You are only allowed one attempt at going up this steep hill without rolling or stalling. If clutch control is obtained you will be fine and you will get the incline right!

2. Drivers Licence Yard Test | Alley Docking For Code 10 (Heavy Vehicles)

Alley docking requires a lot of practice and when you know what to do you shouldn't have trouble in the yard. The driving examiner will ask you to stop at the right side of the boundary line with the front of your heavy vehicle immediately above or over the 14 meter line. You will then be asked to reverse to the right of the demarcated area without hitting any obstacles or boundary lines. The you will be asked to stop where indicated.

During the actual alley docking part of the test you are allowed to stop and one forward movement is permitted for each attempt. You are allowed a second attempt if your first was unsuccessful provided you did not come into contact with the lines and you did not hit anything.

3. Drivers Licence Yard Test | Left Turn For Code 10 (Heavy Motor Vehicles)

During the yard test you will have to perform a left turn around a bend, in your heavy motor vehicle, without touching any obstacles and without stopping. This stage of your yard test will be completed when the wheel axle is on the left hand side of the area adjacent to the 45° line where it meets the dashed centre line.

4. Drivers Licence Yard Test | Reversing In A Straight Line For Code 10 (Heavy Vehicles)

The driving test examiner will give you directions and ask you to stop immediately on or in front of the starting line. To complete this procedure you need to do the following...

Revere the heavy vehicle in a straight line within a demarcated area without stopping. You just have one chance to complete this procedure and you are not allowed to touch any of the boundary lines. You need to stop your vehicle within or beyond the 5 meter stopping zone... Good luck.
