How To Do A Three (3) Point Turn Also Called The Turn In The Road
The driving instructor or examiner will show you where to go during the yard test to perform the South African three (3) point turn which is commonly referred to as the turn in the road.
Instructions To Follow When Performing A Three (3) Point Turn
- Position your car at the starting point as shown to you by the testing facilitator.
- Turn the car around within the 12-metre roadway, without mounting any of the kerbs.
- Only use two forward movements and one reverse movement.
- At the end of this maneuver you should be facing the opposite direction to which you started. At this point your vehicle should be in the demarcated area and should not be touching the kerb or any of the lines.

Tips On How To Pass The Three (3) Point Turn (Turn In The Road)
- 5 Point heck.
- Signal intention (Indicate).
- Select required gear.
- Obtain clutch control.
- Observe.
- Release hand brake.
- Move off driving forwards and turn steering wheel as far as possible to the right.
- Counter steer.
- Stop.
- Apply hand brake.
- 5 Point Check.
- Signal intention.
- Select reverse gear.
- Obtain clutch control.
- Observe.
- Release hand brake.
- Move off in a backward direction and turn steering wheel to the left.
- Counter steer.
- Stop.
- Apply hand brake.
- 5 Point check.
- Signal intention.
- Select required gear.
- Obtain clutch control
- Observe.
- Release hand brake.
- Move off driving forward, and keep left.
- Cancel Signal.
