Driving License Yard Test: What You Need To Know
The yard test during your driver's licence is the first part of the exam. It is also the most intricate part of the test. You should be informed about what is expected from you and what the examiner or driving instructor expects from you during the yard test. Normally the examiner will go over all the rules and information that you need to know about. If you are not sure about anything please do not hesitate to ask!
Before getting into your vehicle you need to do the pre trip inspection. This is made up of the interior and exterior checks. The examiner will be present during these checks and how well you do will depend on if you are allowed to get into the vehicle and do the yard test or not.
General Information About The Yard Test
- You have a time limit to complete this stage of your driver's license. You have 20 minutes, do not worry though it is not as short as it sounds!
- You are allowed to stop your vehicle at any point during manoeuvres.
- You need to signal and observe as if you were on a public road.
- It is not necessary to wear a seatbelt during the yard test.
- If you fail the yard test at any point, you will have to re-do the whole thing all over again.
- You must obey all traffic signs, road markings and traffic signals.
- You are not allowed to touch ant obstacle.
- Stay clear of the kerns, if you touch them you will fail.
- The push and pull method of steering is not required during the yard test.
- Wait for the driving tester to tell you where to go and when o move.
- You need to always apply your hand brake and put the car into neutral when you are not moving. The examiner also has the right to tell you when to do this.
- All the errors made will be recorded by the examiner and will determine whether you pass or fail the yard test.
