The Code 10 Driving Licence Examination
The code 10 drivers license is dedicated specifically to getting your driving licence for heavy motor vehicles. Once you have this license you may drive any motor vehicle from the size of a truck downwards.
Starting Up Procedure For Manual Transmission Heavy Motor Vehicles - Code 10
Ensure that parking (Hand) brake is up.
Ensure that gear lever is in the neutral position.
Ensure that all instruments are in the non function position.
Turn ignition on without starting the engine.
Check dashboard instruments for any malfunctions.
Apply the choke if necessary or ensure that the choke is cancelled.
Select the engine control switch to “on” (Diesel vehicles only).
Use pre-heater if required (Diesel vehicles only).
Turn key to fully start the engine.
Release hold on key as soon as the engine starts.
Check dashboard instruments for system malfunctions.
Build up air pressure by letting the engine idle until appropriate instruments indicate that the air pressure is correct.
Cancel operation of choke; where applicable.

Ensure the parking (Hand) brake is up.
Ensure that the gear lever is in P (Park) or N (Neutral)
Check that the gauges and warning lights are in the non-function position.
Turn the ignition on without turning the engine on.
Check the dashboard warning lights and gauges for any malfunctions.
Turn the engine on.
Use the pre-heater (Diesel vehicles only).
Check for system malfunctions on the dashboard.
Build up pressure by letting the vehicle idle until the appropriate instruments show that the pressure is correct.
