The Code 8 Exterior Check (Normal Car)

The driving examiner will be using a stopwatch to time you on how long it takes you to do the exterior check of the vehicle. The test operator will allow you to rectify any minor mistakes you make, however no extra time is given to you for this.

This test is to show that the vehicle you are doing your driver license test in is roadworthy. If your car is not safe or it has anything out of the ordinary wrong with it the test will be discontinued as a result of  the "Car unroadworthy" law.

The Facts You Need To Know And State When Doing The Exterior Check Of The Code 8 (Normal car) Drivers license Test

1. No oil, grease leaks or obstructions under the car.
2. No damage to the side of the vehicle.
3. Mirror-clean, secure and undamaged.
4. Right side of windscreen-clean, secure and undamaged.
5. No oil, grease leaks or obstructions around or underneath the wheel.
6. Tread more than 1mm.
7. Side of the tyre not damaged.
8. Side of tyre not damaged.
9. Valve cap on.
10. Tyre pressure has been checked.
11. Hubcap secure.
12.  Front lights, indicator-clean, secure and undamaged.
13.  Bonnet, grill and bumper-clean, secure and undamaged.
14. Inside the bonnet checked: oil, water, brake fluid and fan belt.
15. Number plate-clean, secure and undamaged and corresponds to valid license disc on window.
16. Lights as first.
17. Wheel as first.
18. Windscreen wiper-clean, secure and undamaged.
19. Windscreen-clean, secure and undamaged.
20. Mirror-clean, secure and undamaged.
21. Door can open and close.
22. Window turns up and down.
23. Seatbelt not damaged-locks when jerked.
24. Back door as first door.
25. Back wheel as first wheel.
26. Petrol cap-closed and secure.
27. Back light as first.
28. Back windscreen-clean, secure and undamaged.
29. Boot and bumper-clean, secure and undamaged.
30. Inside the boot-jack, spare wheel and spanner.
31. Number plate.
32. Number plate light works.
33. Exhaust secure-no holes.
34. Lights as first.
35. Wheel as first.
36. Door as first.
