Preparing For The Code 10 Drivers License Examination
Please note most of the factors have been discussed in the code 8 drivers test preparation. In this series of code 10.
The code 10 Drivers Test
Motor cars or vehicles that fall under code 10 drivers test class are vehicles of 3500kg or more. The minimum total length for these vehicles is 6 metres long.
Requirements for passing the code 10-yard test
Like the code 8 drivers test, all practical driving tests must begin with a pre-trip inspection. And the code 10 manoeuvres can be done in any sequence as instructed by the driving examiner.
The following is what you will be tested on in the yard test
- Pre trip inspection (Exterior and interior).
- Incline start (Steep Hill).
- Alley docking.
- Left turn.
- Reverse in a straight line.
Requirements for passing the practical drivers test for code 10
The road test can only be attempted after you have passed the code 10 yard test.
Every testing centre has an established route, which has the following …
- A road with two-controlled intersections, clearly demarcated road markings and the road must have at least 2 lanes.
- A road with one intersection controlled by a four way stop sign.
- A four way intersection controlled by a stop sign or traffic lights.
- Two intersections controlled by yield signs.
- A road where the applicant will be able to yield right of way at one of the intersections.
One other important factor is that the road test contains at least 65% of driving on public roads in an urban area.
The examiner will be marking the following throughout the duration of the road and the yard tests:
- Any violation of the traffic laws.
- Any uncontrolled or dangerous actions.
- Collision and mechanical failures.
Drivers licence Code 10 yard test
The code 10 drivers test begins with the pre trip inspection. The pre trip inspection has to be completed within 20 minutes. After you have successfully completed the inspections, the examiner will instruct you to move off to the first yard test manoeuvre.
During this stage, you are allowed to stop whenever you want to. Observations and signals are very important during these stages. You will not be penalised for not wearing your seatbelt during the yard test but just remember you need to put your seatbelt on when doing the road test. In the yard test you are not allowed to touch any obstacles or bump a pole; no uncontrolled or dangerous driving will be tolerated.
If you are not sure of any anything during the code 10 yard test, you are allowed to ask the examiner, but the driving tester is not allowed to tell you the answers on how to manoeuvre. The examiner is allowed to instruct you to apply the parking brake, select neutral and cancel signals whenever he/she wants.
