How I got a Drivers Licence Booking From the East Rand Call Centre Number

On the 31/05/2007 I tried again for another booking, I think this is the trick!  You try right before 8:00 if it gets engaged again you try it again. At that time of the the hour they are lightly t pick it up. But you will have to wait for the them to answer and that might take more than 25 min, be prepared to wait! 400 Million Rand Enatis System Goes Wrong

AT LONG LAST! I got a booking for my drivers test in Edenvale (its 2 weeks from now).

Yesterday being the 17/05/2007 I went to Edenvale testing centre and stood on the queue like everyone else, for an hour. For confirming a booking you need R178 (drivers licence) and for learners R178. Its sure getting expensive by the day. South Africans COMMENT

And the mystery as to how to book for your learners and drivers licence test it is still just that a "mystery", No one is willing to resolve the issue, if they try they just make it worse. The Ekurhuleni number is always engaged for some reason, and the agent for the GPG contact number always apologises for not having test bookings. The frustration of booking a driving test

Want to know how I got it?

Like everyone else I have been battling to get a booking. I have been trying the 0860358358 number (East Rand) and also the 08604288364 number (GPG) but as the Sotho people will say "Gagonko etswang limina" (nothing was coming up)

Now I decided to stay on the phone like mad, also with the fear that my learners licence could expire again. And believe you me, I have no courage to write another learners test again. (the department has got enough of my money).  If I do it again, it will be my third time around, I know this sounds familiar to other people.

On the 15/052007 at 09:10 in the morning that is when I got my booking. After I have hold on the line for an hour and 15minutes.

I first tried to call them before 8:00 AM and you get that voice telling you that office hours are from 8:00 to 16:00, then as soon as you know it the line goes dead. Fine. I try again at 8:00 exactly, hoping to hear the same thing but no, now the lines have turned, and as usual the Ekurhuleni Licencing call centre is engaged. Are they trying to tell me that already close to a thousand of people are on the phone trying to call the number? If it is like that fine with me, because I can understand. With the number of people looking for drivers bookings, estimated at 42% of the country and with the number of driving schools trying to get their clients booking, I'll rather not estimate at the amount (because some driving schools are charging people R150 for a booking, maybe some it might cost more).

Instead of me typing in the whole number again and again, every time it becomes engaged, I press the redial button. Of course it went dead now and then, I also got tired, but that was like 08:15. I kept on pressing the redial button until 8:31.

By then I realised that I have been on the phone for the last 40 minutes straight. You can start to imagine the bill by then.

At 08:48 a hear, welcome to the Ekurhuleni Licencing call centre, then I thought to myself is this for real or what? Continued saying "to make a drivers licence booking dial 1". I waited with so much anticipation, and I don't know what is more to make you tense now, is it booking for a licence or taking the actual drivers test?

Because I have once tried and this is what a couple of people go through with this number. You dial and eventually get through, when you do and have waited for a good 15 to 30 minutes the line goes dead.

I waited for 13 minutes before they could answer my call

By the time a lady said how can I help you, all my strength to shout and complain was gone, also scared that she can drop the call on me.

I tolled her what I wanted, and I wanted to make a booking in Kempton park or Edenvale. She said if you want to test in Kempton park, call us at 10:10. Now, I'm listening to her and I wonder if she knows how much I struggled to get through now. Never mind 10:10.

I said okay then book me in Edenvale and with the Lord's grace and mercy she did. That is how I got my date, and I noticed also that you are only allowed to book one person per call.

My friend tells me that they have bookings but they don't give out to people, as to why, I'm still going to find out! Which is not fair for us the public.

For those that are still in search for bookings, all I can say is, keep making that call. As for me, I'm just waiting fir my boss to complain about the phone bill and the day of the test.

Note: Does the department know how much it costs to stay on the phone for an hour and 15minutes? EK wonder...
