Applying for Registration of A Driving School or Instructor | Instructors Certificate
Rules and regulations that driving schools or instructors must follow; If your attending a driving school and they don't show the speculated signs below, then that driving school or instructor is not following the law. This webpage is to alert the public of how to carefully choose a driving school and driving instructors.
The following is the regulation act that any driving school or driving instructor must have in order to run a driving school or be able to take a learner drive for a lesson. Many people have been taken for a ride by driving schools or people employed as driving instructors, only to find that they are not certified to do the job according to national road Traffic Act and Regulations (Act 93/1996).
A driving instructors certificate or driving school is approved in terms of regulation 250 of the road traffic act no.29 of 1989, subject to the following;
The certificate is valid only for the lessons of applicants (driving school or instructor) for class B motor vehicle drivers licence for the province of Gauteng
A driving instructors certificate or diving school certificate will only be issued when the applicant complies with the relevant conditions as stipulated in the Annexure to Road Traffic Circular 511 of 25 March 1994. What You Need To Become a Certified Driving School Instructor
Only when the applicant complies with the above, he or she may apply in terms of regulation 250(10) for the issue of the instructors certificate or driving school certificate at the Registering Authority of Kempton Park within 21 days.
Any person applying to be a driving school or an instructor must comply with the following conditions (Regulations 250 of the road traffic regulations enacted under the road traffic act 1989 (ACT No.29 of 1989)
The applicant (driving school or instructor) must be in possession of a motor vehicle or vehicles with a dual control service. Brake is necessary in any driving school car so that in emergencies the instructor will have sufficient control of the vehicle
The motor vehicle must bear the name of the driving school or instructor for identification purposes. This will also warn the public that the vehicle is possibly being driven by a learner driver.
After the issue of the certificate, the instructor or driving school shall keep the following record in respect of each learner driver separately. The records must be available for one year after the learner has completed his lessons.
The records that the learner driver signs must have the following details and is to be filled in every time the learner is taken for a lesson by the instructor;
Name, identity number and address of learner
Period of lesson, with details of dates and hours per day instructed
Fees paid
Class of drivers licence
Number of hours driving lessons received in city or town
Number of hours lessons received outside or town
date of which tested by registering authority and result of test
