What About Driving Schools & The People Who Need A Booking
"eNatis was introduced to help people pay and book for their licences online and allow people to use ATMs to pay traffic fines and to renew vehicle licences"
Me and my friend Brian have been putting a close eye on the hole situation, we have come to realise that Jeff Radebe and his department only seem to put the concentration on motorists, car sales and people who need to renew discs and licences. WHAT ABOUT US! The ones who desperately need a learners and drivers licence booking.
Or even better, as the guys out there are getting amnesty for not paying their traffic fines on time, will we get the same treatment, if our learner's have expired during this whole fiasco without being able to get a booking for a drivers licence? What about driving schools? They are heavily affected by this drama, but did you hear the department mention them, Not al all! Exactly on whose site is the department of transport on?
As I have reported on my last article about the difficulties of getting a booking in Ekurhuleni and other provinces. This is like an unplanned strategy of the department trying to reduce people who want to get on the road "legally" and the congestion of cars in the road. They are some how, hoping we will give up on getting licences and forget about driving. We have news for them, if you knew how many people in South Africa are driving in our roads and just need that card that says you have passed the parallel parking or great you can do your five checks before you indicate! Hhmmmm
People out there are not going to be stopped by an unworking system, that fails to meet the drivers needs. It can stop the car sales but not the learners licence holders. I always encourage people to do the right thing. Go and apply for your learners and after apply for your driers licence. But for a working class lady who has a car, can driver and who is at the moment trying to get a drivers licence booking in Cape Town. When she goes to the station she is tolled its already full for the whole year. What is she suppose to do? Wait a minute I know the answer to that, on the 2 second of January 2008 be the first one in the queue to get your booking.
People are trying to do the right thing, but its just the process that is getting us down. Do you think after trying for 2 years to get a drivers licence, then I get an opportunity to test and I fail. Will I ever want to test again?
Driving schools, you ask yourself, how much have they lost due to these delays. The fact of people paying driving schools to get bookings for them, it shows they don't want anything to do with the testing centre or the call centre, that always apologises for not having any bookings.
The other thing is people go for driving lessons when they have secured bookings, until then driving schools wont be having people to train.
These are not just problems we are experiencing now, it was even before Enatis system. Now is there any hope of us getting our bookings after the upgrading of the system. Well that remains to be seen...
