Licence Codes For Learners And Drivers Licences And The Age Requirements For Applying

South African licence codes have changed. They used to be presented in code 8 code 10 and code 14. Now the following will apply:

Code 1

Motorcycle Code A1, less than 125cc and the minimum age for applying for this code is 16 years upwards. Motorcycle Code A, which is bigger than 125cc, the minimum age for applying for this code is 17 years.

Code 2

For a light motor vehicle the code is now B and EB. The minimum age to apply is 17 years for a learners licence and 18 years for a drivers licence.

Code 3

Minimum age for applying for this code is 18 years. C, C1, EC1 and EC.

To apply for these above code, you will need to have a valid South African ID and you can apply at any testing station in South Africa.
