400 Million Rand Enatis License System Goes Wrong

On the 2007/04/17 on morning live news on SABC 2 the Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe reported that the new upgraded licence system is going to go live at 7:30 on the enatis website.

But as said on this website from yesterday, is that the system has started on a very shaky level. Most people couldn't book because of the system that was down or not install in other testing centres. This is not a new condition to our stations, because most of the time we visit these stations its either their are offline or something is going wrong!

Other testing centres are still going through with taking learners and license bookings manually. In Durban there are long queues at the Rossburgh Vehicle Licensing and Testing centre in Durban and also Cape Town is greatly affected by this thing.

I have tried logging into the Enatis website, I couldn't find what was set to be there. So we think that nothing is running smoothly as expected, it will STILL take some time before the system can fulfill everybody's needs (maybe September or Next year). But for car registering and renewal of drivers licence the system is "SUPPOSE" to be running well.

After this was reported, the SABC reported again on the same day, that the system will only be doing certain things, at this particular stage I do not know what. Meaning everything will fully function later in the year as said again maybe next year.

Enatis system cost 400 million.

The Enatis electronic National Traffic Information System that costed 400 million was launched at Midrand on the 17 of April. While other stations left closed because of the non very un functioning system. We were very hopeful about this system solving our Ekurhuleni call centre problem, but when people called and tolled us that we must not get our hopes high it will not change anything. I thought they lacked faith towards our government...

But now I see what they meant... we are back where we where before the 5th of April 2007. Enatis what is really going on?

I don't want to report only the bad side of the things, lets also acknowledge the good side of the system... SABC reported that testing stations in the North West, Limpopo and Northern Cape have experienced no problems in using the Enatis system. Everything is going well from yesterday when they opened. And there 1 500 users that have already been able to do 60 000 transactions and register over 4 000 cars.

People in Cape Town are still stranded to book and renew their drivers licence. Cape Town traffic department has been closed the whole of last week and still has not opened today.

But in the mean time while these things are going, we ask ourselves how many Learners licence are reaching an expiry date? when you go and complain about it they don't even want to hear about it...
